Under the patronage of the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Thajil Al-Maamouri, the Institute held a workshop entitled “Human Rights: Between Entitlement and Violation” in the Institute’s hall. The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Najlaa Sada Hassoun, Associate Dean of the Post-graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies, and Professor Dr. Mahmoud Khalil Khudair Al-Maamouri, a faculty member in the Accounting Studies Department at the Institute. A number of staff and faculty members from the Institute participated in the workshop.
The workshop addressed the need to emphasize the existence of demands for fulfilling certain capabilities and potentials that must be available on ethical grounds for all people. It stressed that human rights and freedoms are a reflection of human thoughts, feelings, and freedoms that cannot be relinquished as they are inherent rights. The workshop also emphasized the importance of expanding the concept of human rights in the present time to include economic, social, cultural, and educational dimensions, and stressed the need to protect human rights through various means, including constitutional, legislative, and judicial protection.
This workshop contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 16, which focuses on building strong and effective institutions based on transparency and accountability, and reducing corruption in all its forms, thus contributing to an institutional environment that supports sustainable development.
