Under the supervision of the Dean of the Post- graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies, the Chartered Accountant, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Thajil Al-Mamouri, the Educational Guidance Committee was established in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Committee held a workshop entitled (Combat Drugs and Addressing the Phenomenon in Iraq) in the Institute’s hall. The workshop was managed by Assistant Professor Dr. Kholoud Hadi Abboud, lecturing in the Department Financial studies at the Institute. Professor Dr. Saif Muhammad Radeef from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research – Center for Psychological Research lectured at the workshop. A number of lecturers and graduate students at the Institute participated in the workshop.
The workshop showed the historical development of the emergence of the drug phenomenon, its causes, how it spreads, and the negative effects on the youth segment of society. It addressed the role of customary legal legislation in combating and limiting the spread of this phenomenon, and how the Iraqi government was able to enact laws that punish anyone who trades in drugs or attempts to spread and promote it. These activities are classified within the objectives of the environment and sustainability in achieving goal (3) to ensure that all segments of society have access to a healthy and well-being life for all ages.
The workshop came up with a set of recommendations to reduce the dangerous phenomenon by emphasizing the use of media and promotional means, using social media and audio-visual means of communication, and educating segments of society to reduce this phenomenon.
