Assistant lecturer Uday Obaid Zidan, head of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Unit at the Post-graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies, participated in the training workshop held at the University of Baghdad, Al-Hakim Hall, on the analysis of scientific research indicators for Iraqi universities and their impact on the results of the QS classification of subjects for the year 2024, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. For scientific affairs, Dr. Haider Abd Dahd, the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ensaf, the Assistant President of the University of Baghdad for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah, assistant university presidents for scientific affairs, deans of colleges, and heads of scientific departments in Iraqi universities.

The workshop included a lecture delivered by Dr. Omar Faleh Hassan, Director of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department at the University of Baghdad, which reviewed the classification results and publishing statistics for Iraqi universities in the Scopus database, which was topped by the University of Baghdad. The University of Baghdad’s methodology was also presented over the past years, which led it to achieve outstanding results for 6 specializations. In the QS classification, the workshop included a dialogue session moderated by the media personality, Duha Saad, during which the Undersecretary and the lecturer answered the attendees’ inquiries, as well as discussing proposals and ideas to raise the quality of scientific research in Iraqi universities. The workshop recommended the necessity of building a road map in the next stage for scientific research classified in global databases, working to train the cadres responsible for this through a central committee, and cooperating with well-established international universities. It is noteworthy that the University of Baghdad recently received a 4-star rating from the British QS Foundation, making the Iraqi university with the highest rating. This achievement came after a full year of work that culminated in the university being honored at the QS Higher Education Summit in the United Arab Emirates in a large ceremony. It was attended by a large number of international universities and higher education experts in the world, and this achievement is a source of pride for Iraq before it is credited to the University of Baghdad.
