The Department of Accounting Studies at the Post-graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the research titled)   REDUCING THE COSTS OF NATURAL GAS USE AND HARMFUL EMISSIONS THROUGH BUSINESS PROCESS REENGINEERING -An Applied Research  ) for the student Haider Ali Lafta Al-Darwish  to obtain Cost and Management Accountant certificate, which is the highest professional certificate in the field of specialization, and its holder enjoys all the rights and privileges of a doctorate degree.

The study aimed to measure the economic and environmental impacts resulting from the use of natural gas in the petrochemical industry, while identifying the effects arising from the flaring of unutilized gas and their implications for economic performance. It also seeks to assess the current state of the company’s production processes and to demonstrate the importance of Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and its role in addressing the research problem, which is represented by the high cost of natural gas used in production.

The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which is the feasibility of applying Business Process Reengineering (BPR) at the General Company for Petrochemical Industries in a manner that contributes to reducing production costs and minimizing the flaring of unutilized gas, while identifying and eliminating non-value-added activities. The application of this technique would also contribute to improving the company’s financial position and could support its transformation from a loss-making company into a profitable and leading company in the industry.
