As part of the 2026 activity plan at the Post Graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies (University of Baghdad)—and under the patronage of the Institute’s Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Mohammed Thajeel Al-Maamouri, and in the presence of the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul-Hassan Atiya Hassan—the Institute’s Continuing Education Unit organized a workshop titled “Addressing and Resolving Financial and Administrative Observations and Violations Cited in Federal Board of Supreme Audit Reports.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Wissam Nasir Khalil, Deputy Director General of the Public Services Audit Department at the Federal Board of Supreme Audit; Dr. Haifa Yousef Suleiman, Director of the Audit and Internal Control Department at the University of Baghdad; and Mr. Saif Saadi Ali, Head of the Audit Committee operating at the University of Baghdad.
The President of the University of Baghdad affirmed the University’s appreciation for the significant national and professional role played by the Federal Board of Supreme Audit in safeguarding public funds, upholding integrity and transparency, and improving institutional performance. He also commended the Board’s role and contribution regarding the final accounts of the University’s various entities—a process that helps protect public funds—while emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation with the Board in areas such as training, capacity building, and keeping pace with regulatory directives and decisions.
The workshop addressed various topics, including the types of audit reports; the definition and analysis of audit findings; the processes of responding to, following up on, and resolving such findings; and the implementation of preventive measures and recommendations.
The course aimed to familiarize participants with audit reports and their categories; develop skills in analyzing audit findings; equip participants with the ability to draft responses to these findings; and outline procedures for follow-up and resolution. It also sought to enhance capabilities regarding the collection and verification of supporting documentation; explore methods for addressing errors and preventing the recurrence of violations; strengthen the role of internal controls and preventive measures; apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios; and ultimately safeguards public funds while improving institutional performance.
This workshop aligns with the joint commitment of the Post Graduate Institute and the University to strengthen preventive oversight, addresses issues at their root, and fosters a culture of compliance and accountability—thereby contributing to the enhancement of financial and administrative performance and the safeguarding of public funds.
This activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
