Under the patronage of the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies, Chartered Accountant Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Thajil Al-Maamouri, the Institute’s Consulting Office held a training course entitled “Application of International Accounting Standards” from September 7, 2025, to September 18, 2025.

This course aims to develop skills and provide expertise and knowledge to employees in the Ministry of Oil’s formations in the field of applying international accounting standards. Two courses were held simultaneously, one outside Baghdad Governorate (at the Oil Training Institute in Kirkuk Governorate), and the second in the hall of the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies at the University of Baghdad.

The course, held at the Institute, was lectured by the Assistant Dean of the Institute, the Head of the Financial Studies Department, and specialized instructors at the Institute. The course covered several topics, including measuring fair value and its impact on enhancing the transparency of financial reports, addressing changes in foreign exchange rates and their impact on assets and liabilities, and also addressing provisions, liabilities, and assets. The course also addressed the potential impact of financial disclosure, the preparation of financial statements and planning budgets, and their role in supporting future planning. It also addressed improving financial control and enhancing the quality of decision-making. Several examples and case studies were presented and discussed with the participants.

At the end of the course, the participants were tested, and Prof. Dr. Baidaa Sattar Lafta, Director of the Consulting Office, presented them with certificates of appreciation. She emphasized the need to organize such courses on an ongoing basis, as they have become an important and vital topic in light of the development of the regulatory and accounting system in accordance with international standards. She also expressed the Institute’s readiness to continue scientific and professional cooperation in a way that contributes to developing the competencies of employees in the Ministry of Oil and achieving the best benefit from the expertise of the Institute’s Consulting Office in providing training courses to various state institutions.
