The Dean of the Post-graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies at the University of Baghdad, chartered accountant Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Thajil Al-Maamouri, , welcomed the committee formed by the University of Baghdad’s administration to establish new academic departments. The committee was headed by Professor Dr. Hussein Qasim Hussein, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department, and Professor Dr. Manal Shaker Ali, Director of the Studies and Planning Department; , Assistant Lecturer Omar Faiz Hussein, Director of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department; and Lecturer Dr. Najwa Salem from the Scientific Affairs Department. The meeting was held to discuss the establishment of a specialized studies department at the institute, which will offer five graduate programs, contributing to the development of the academic environment and meeting the needs of the job market.
The committee reviewed the requirements for establishing the academic department at the institute, including classrooms, faculty offices, offices for the department head and coordinator, as well as secretarial and library facilities. The committee commended the institute’s administration for its efforts in providing the necessary resources, particularly in equipping classrooms with smart screens, despite the challenges posed by limited funding. In a related context, the Institute reviewed the reasons for establishing specialized postgraduate programs, foremost among them being meeting the needs of state institutions and the private sector for specialized expertise. These programs address the requirements of government ministries in internal auditing, as well as other specialized programs for the Ministry of Oil and oil companies, the Central Bank, and Islamic banks. Additionally, a doctoral program is specifically designed for graduates of the Institute’s Department of Financial Studies. The committee emphasized the importance of keeping pace with the rapid developments in the business environment by preparing qualified professionals in accounting and finance, thus contributing to addressing the shortage in these fields across Iraq.
Attendees also noted the availability of qualified teaching staff to supervise postgraduate students and conduct applied research. This presents a significant opportunity to utilize these resources to develop scientific expertise within the country, reducing the need for overseas scholarships and their associated costs.
This initiative aligns with the Institute’s commitment to enhancing its academic standing and expanding its study programs to meet development needs and serve various state institutions.
