Under the supervision of the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Thajil Al-Maamouri, the Institute’s Continuing Education Unit held a workshop entitled “Promoting the Authentic Values ​​of Iraqi Society and Combating Negative Phenomena: A Case Study of Drug Abuse.” The workshop was held in the Institute’s auditorium and featured presentations by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Thajil Al-Maamouri, Dean of the Post-graduate Institute, and Professor Dr. Mohammed Uloum Mohammed, a faculty member in the Department of Financial Studies. A number of faculty members and postgraduate students from the Institute participated.

The workshop addressed the historical development of the drug phenomenon, its causes, methods of spread, and negative effects on young people in society. It also discussed the role of customary legal legislation in combating and reducing the spread of this phenomenon and how the Iraqi government has enacted laws to punish those who traffic in drugs or attempt to distribute or promote them.

The workshop reached a set of recommendations to reduce the dangerous phenomenon by emphasizing the use of media and promotional means using social media and audio-visual communication means and raising awareness among segments of society to reduce this phenomenon. These activities are classified within the goals of environment and sustainability in achieving goal (3) to ensure that all segments of society have a healthy life and well-being for all ages.
