The Department of Financial Studies at the Post-graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies at the University of Baghdad held an in-person scientific symposium in the institute’s hall entitled (The Role of Insurance in Compensating for Medical Errors) and under the supervision of the Dean of the Institute, the Certified Public Accountant, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Thajil Al-Mamouri. The symposium was moderated by the Lecturer, Ali Abdel Azim. Baqir, Scientific Affairs Officer at the Institute, and during the symposium working papers were presented by the lecturers (Mrs. Suhair Sayed Hassanein from the National Insurance Company, Mr. Thamer Muhammad Abdel Karim from the Iraqi General Insurance Company, and Assistant Professor Faiza Abdel Karim Al-Tadisi from the Financial Studies Department at the Institute) and participated in the symposium. A number of professors, associates and students of the institute.
Among its objectives, the symposium highlighted the importance of insurance in reducing the effects of medical errors, associated with errors in the practice of the profession by practitioners of the medical profession for all medical professionals, and the costs of lawsuits related to compensation claims that may accompany that.
The symposium reached several recommendations, the most important of which is that insurance companies should work on creating a special policy to insure against medical errors for medical professionals instead of the professional liability document currently used, and that insurance on the medical professions document should be mandatory for all medical professionals to reduce the effects resulting from potential errors.
