Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ansaf, and the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Professor Dr. Amr Ezzat, the University of Baghdad hosted the General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities and assumed the presidency of the current session of the Union in its fifty-sixth edition, which coincides with the anniversary. The sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Union, in the presence of ambassadors of Arab countries, representatives of Arab ministers of higher education, university presidents, and a number of Arab and foreign academic elites. The Dean of the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies, Chartered Accountant, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Thajil Al-Mamouri, attended the conference.
The session included an announcement by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, calling for the establishment and declaration of an Arab higher education zone, focusing on tools to raise the outputs of Arab universities, reducing the gap between Arab education spaces and opening the way for productive interaction with sober educational environments.
The symposium witnessed the signing of several memorandums of understanding between Iraqi and Arab universities, including providing a number of free scholarships to Iraq, opening the door to scientific and academic cooperation between universities, as well as granting development courses for teachers and researchers.
For his part, the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ensaf, confirmed that the fifty-sixth session, which Iraq hosted, achieved a large attendance rate in terms of Arab participation rates in it, in addition to a number of memorandums of understanding that Arab universities signed with Iraq.
