Under the supervision of the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies, Chartered Accountant, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Thajil Al-Maamouri, the Institute held its scientific symposium entitled (Environmental Awareness and its Impact on the Sustainability of Cities) in the Institute Hall, managed by Assistant Professor Dr. Mahmoud Ismail Muhammad, a lecturer in the Department of Accounting Studies at the Institute, and delivered by the Dean of the Center for Urban and Regional Planning for Graduate Studies, Professor Dr. Karim Hussein Alwan, in the presence of a large gathering of the Institute’s professors and students.
The symposium aimed to introduce the importance of environmental awareness and how to preserve the environment as a national duty, while explaining what are the indicators of sustainable development and monitoring the status of natural resources and rationalizing their use in line with the goals of sustainable development.
The symposium addressed environmental standards represented by noise levels and sewage water, in addition to the emission of polluting gases and visual pollution.
The Dean of the Center also addressed the sustainable city, which is classified according to its geographical location, administrative and economic function, in addition to the transportation network, commercial markets, and entertainment or cultural centers that made the city more attractive to residents from villages and rural areas, and what necessitates a return to the rules of sustainability to preserve it.
