Under the supervision of the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies, Chartered Accountant, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Thajil Al-Maamouri, the Department of Financial Studies at the Institute holds a seminar entitled (Challenges Facing the Insurance Sector in Iraq: Actuarial Expertise) in the Institute Hall, the management and lecture of the seminar was Assistant Professor Faiza Abdul Karim Muhammad, a lecturer in the Department of Financial Studies at the Institute, and Mr. Haider Ahmed Abu Al-Qasim from the Iraqi General Insurance Company and Mr. Mustafa Muhammad Hassan from the National Insurance Company lectured in the seminar, and a number of lecturers and graduate students at the Institute participated in the seminar.
The seminar, within the objectives consistent with the eighth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (Decent Work and Economic Growth), demonstrated the importance of the actuarial insurance sector and its role in assessing financial risks and providing solutions to unexpected events.
The symposium reached the conclusion of working on increasing awareness of the importance of the availability of actuarial expertise in the company’s corridors, especially with regard to its employees, by relying on regional and international actuarial training centers and developing ideas regarding the importance of its availability in the company’s departments, and the necessity of having a specialized administrative unit that works on applying actuarial mathematical models that help in the pricing mechanism and determining premiums and risks that suit the various insurance policies.
