Under the supervision of the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies, Chartered Accountant, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Thajil Al-Maamouri, the Continuing Education Unit at the Institute held a workshop entitled (The Cultural and Social Dimensions of Iraqi Society and Its Role in Combating Drugs) in the Institute Hall. The workshop was lectured by Assistant Professor Dr. Wafa Hussein Salman Al-Haidari, Assistant Dean of the Institute, and Assistant Professor Dr. Kholoud Hadi Abboud, a lecturer in the Department of Financial Studies at the Institute. A number of lecturers and graduate students at the Institute participated in the workshop.

The workshop explained the Iraqi legislation related to drugs, and how to apply it effectively to combat this scourge that threatens society. The workshop also addressed the role of the security and judicial agencies in promoting the rule of law and implementing appropriate penalties to limit the spread of this phenomenon.

The workshop concluded that it was emphasized the importance of intensifying cooperation between all concerned parties and developing legislation and laws to keep pace with the current challenges in combating drugs. These activities are classified within the environmental and sustainability goals to achieve Goal (11) in making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, flexible and sustainable.
