Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Post-graduate Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, and under the supervision of the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Insaf, the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies at the Institute is holding a symposium entitled “Elections: A National Duty to Achieve Reform and Construction: Higher Education as a Model.” The symposium was moderated and lectured by Chartered Accountant Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Thajil Al-Maamouri, Dean of the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies. A number of faculty members and graduate students from the Institute participated in the symposium.
The symposium addressed several topics, most notably the role of elections in the peaceful transfer of power. Participation in elections is one of the most prominent forms of exercising democratic rights, while simultaneously being a national responsibility that falls on every citizen who cares about their country’s future and stability.
In conclusion, the symposium recommended the importance of strengthening cooperation between state institutions in general, and educational institutions in particular, as well as civil society organizations and the media, in spreading the culture of voting and highlighting the importance of citizen participation in elections as a tool for change.
