Under the supervision of the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute of Accounting and Financial Studies, Chartered Accountant Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Thajeel Al-Maamouri, the Institute’s Continuing Education Unit is holding a workshop entitled “The Role of the English Language in Developing Scientific Research” in the Institute’s auditorium. The workshop was lectured by Assistant Professor Dr. Hakim Hamoud Falih, a lecturer in the Department of Accounting Studies, and Lecturer Dr. Saba Karim Abboud, a lecturer in the Student Affairs Division for Postgraduate Studies. A number of instructors and postgraduate students from the Institute participated in the workshop.
The workshop highlighted the importance of proficiency in English for researchers in the fields of accounting and finance, as it is the language of publication in most reputable academic journals. It also plays a key role in facilitating access to international sources and references, as well as effective participation in international conferences.
The workshop concluded with a number of recommendations, most notably ,the need to enhance graduate students’ English language skills by organizing specialized courses, encouraging them to write and publish their research in English, and providing the necessary academic support to develop their skills in this field. These activities fall within the environmental and sustainability objectives to achieve the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all and promote lifelong learning opportunities.
